Why do knives lose sharpness in the dishwasher?

The combination of a corrosive dishwasher detergent and a hot water dishwasher cycle can prematurely blunt your knives. This is because your knives may be knocking against other utensils during the washing cycle, which can damage the edges. To prevent as much of this from happening as possible, we recommend placing knives pointy edge down into the cutlery basket. Not only could this prolong the sharpness of your knives, it’s safer when loading and unloading too.
