Fridge Freezer Buying Guide

Fridge Freezer Buying Guide

Need help deciding which fridge freezer to select? Our informative guide offers all the information you need to make an informed purchasing decision.

If you're in the market for a new fridge freezer you may be wondering what information you need to know before selecting the perfect model for your needs. In this detailed fridge freezer buying guide, we outline the different types of Beko fridge freezers on offer, as well as which features to look out for before making a purchase.

Type

The first thing to consider when searching for a new fridge freezer is which type of appliance would best suit your individual needs. Depending on the size of your kitchen, the décor you are creating, and the amount of storage you require, you may prefer a tall, freestanding fridge freezer or a smaller, integrated fridge freezer that fits beneath the kitchen counter. At Beko, we offer three different types of fridge freezers, including freestanding, built-in, and under-counter models:

Integrated Fridge Freezers

Integrated Fridge Freezers

Perfect for those looking to create a seamless kitchen design, an integrated fridge freezer is designed to sit behind a cupboard door, effortlessly blending in with your kitchen cabinets.

Freestanding Fridge Freezers

Freestanding Fridge Freezers

Unlike our integrated models, freestanding fridge freezers are not made to sit behind a cupboard door, perfect for those who may want to change the layout of their kitchen. A benefit of opting for a freestanding fridge freezer is that they are much easier to install than integrated models.

Under Counter Fridge Freezers

Under Counter Fridge Freezers

Available in standard and slimline models, as well as integrated and freestanding models, our under-counter fridge freezers are perfect for smaller kitchens. Designed to sit under your kitchen counter, these stylish models contain a host of space-saving features, such as adjustable glass shelves and reversible doors.

Size

Once you have decided which appliance type is best suited to your needs, it's important to consider the fridge freezer split. This refers to the amount of space given to the fridge and freezer cavities. To help you understand the various divides, we suggest looking at the ratios as percentages. For example, with a 50-50 fridge freezer, 50% of the appliance space is given to the fridge and 50% is given to the freezer. At Beko, we offer five different split types. We also stock a range of expertly designed standalone fridges and freezers if you would prefer separate appliances for freezing and refrigeration:

70:30

70:30

A 70:30 fridge freezer has a larger fridge space compared to the freezer, making it ideal for those who store more fresh food. The fridge has four shelves, four door racks, and ample room for fresh fruit and vegetables in the salad crisper. The freezer comes with 3 transparent freezer drawers, making it easy to find your frozen food.

60:40

60:40

A 60:40 fridge freezer is distributed so that the fridge holds 60% of the capacity and the freezer holds 40%. Our 60:40 Fridge Freezers are available in a range of contemporary colours including stainless steel, white, silver, and graphite.

50:50

50:50

Perfect for those who like to store an equal amount of fresh and frozen food, 50:50 fridge freezers offer plenty of shelf space to organise your produce. Whilst the fridge space in our 50:50 models features a wine rack and lots of door space for bottles, the freezer section contains clear-fronted drawers that make it easy to locate your frozen foods.

40:60

40:60

A 40:60 fridge freezer is distributed so that the fridge holds 40% of the capacity and the freezer holds 60%. These models are perfect for households that buy a large amount of frozen food but still need fridge space for fruit and vegetables, dairy products, and drinks bottles.

30:70

30:70

A 30:70 fridge freezer has a larger fridge space compared to the freezer, making it ideal for those who store more fresh food. However, unlike a 70:30 fridge freezer, the freezer compartment is located at the top of the appliance instead of at the bottom.

Colour

Selecting a fridge freezer in a stylish finish can greatly affect the style and ambience of your kitchen. Because of this, it’s important to consider which appliance colour will best suit your kitchen décor. At Beko, we have a wide range of colours and finishes to choose from, including:

Water and ice dispensers

A selection of Beko’s fridge freezers are equipped with built-in water dispensers, meaning you can enjoy convenient access to perfectly chilled water in an instant. Before purchasing a model with a water dispenser, it's important to understand the pros and cons of plumbed and non-plumbed models.

Non-Plumbed dispensers

Non-Plumbed Dispenser

If your appliance will not have access to a water supply, a non-plumbed water dispenser is a great choice. Our non-plumbed fridge freezers feature a cleverly designed, slim-line water tank that sits neatly on the fridge door, without taking away from the appliance’s storage space.

Plumbed Dispenser

Plumbed Dispensers

Selected Beko fridge freezers are plumbed directly into your home's water supply, meaning you have an unlimited supply of cool water coming through your fridge. Before purchasing a plumbed fridge, it is important to assess where the appliance will be positioned in your home as the appliance will need to have access to a water supply.

Food Freshness Technologies

Not only do our clever food freshness technologies lock in the nutrients in your food, but they also help to reduce food waste, saving you money.

HarvestFresh™ Technology

Using innovative three-colour light technology to mimic the sun’s 24-hour cycle, Beko’s industry-leading HarvestFresh™ technology preserves the vitamins and nutrients inside fruit and vegetables for five additional days.1

Active Fresh Blue Light™

By exposing your fruit and vegetables to blue light in the crisper drawer, this unique technology continues the photosynthesis process in your fresh produce, helping your fruit and veg to stay fresh for longer.

Chiller Compartment

Chiller Compartment

With a low temperature of around 0ºC, our chiller compartments help keep dairy, meat, and fish fresh for longer. The compartment also offers a hygienic way to keep raw meat and fish separate from the rest of the food in your fridge.

AeroFlow™ Technology

AeroFlow™ Technology

Our unique AeroFlow™ cooling system minimises temperature fluctuations between shelves to ensure that food is evenly cooled, keeping your food fresher for longer in the process.

Quick Cool Setting

Quick Cool Setting

Our Quick Cool setting provides rapid cooling to help keep nutrients and flavours intact, perfect for quickly locking in freshness.

Flame Retardant Back

Flame Retardant Back

Since 2007, all Beko refrigeration products have been manufactured using a flame retardant back. All our current refrigeration products are manufactured with either a metal flame retardant back or an aluminium foil covered flame retardant back, providing increased protection. All our refrigeration products exceed UK and European safety standards.

Freezer Technologies

We're constantly working to optimise our freezer technologies to optimise performance and convenience. Here are some features to look out for:

Frost Free

Frost Free

Thanks to an automatic fan, our Frost-Free models automatically remove the warm air that enters your freezer when the door is opened, preventing the build-up of ice to make sure you won’t need to manually defrost your appliance again.

Neofrost

NeoFrost™

Using two separate cooling systems, our NeoFrost™ technology maintains optimal humidity conditions in the freezer and a dry freezer environment, ensuring faster cooling and longer freshness.

Fast freeze Setting

Fast freeze Setting

The fast freeze setting in the freezer’s top compartments freezes food 10% faster than the other shelves, helping to quickly lock in your food’s vitamins and nutrients.

Freezer Guard

Thanks to our Freezer Guard technology, which ensures your freezer will always function properly, even in temperatures as low as -15°C, you can place your appliance in your garage, outbuilding, or anywhere else in your home.

Things to Consider

Before purchasing a new fridge freezer, there are a number of important factors to consider. To make your purchasing decision easier, we’ve pulled together our top things to consider before buying your new appliance:

Kitchen Space

Kitchen space

Before ordering your new fridge freezer, be sure to measure your space carefully. When measuring, be sure to account for ventilation room. There should be at least 50mm of empty space above the appliance, 30mm at the back, and 25mm free on each side. It is also important to consider the route to the kitchen, measuring doorways and narrow halls to ensure the appliance will fit.

Energy rating

Energy rating

Pay attention to the energy efficiency rating of the appliance, the higher the energy class the more efficient it is. As a company, we are committed to improving the average energy efficiency of our products year after year.
