How to unblock a dishwasher drain filter?

To protect your dishwasher from damage, it is important to clean the interior and exterior of your appliance on a regular basis. The frequency of your cleaning routine will depend on how often you use your machine. However, we suggest deeply cleaning your dishwasher every few months. If your dishwasher did not drain when doing this deep clean though, it may be that your appliance's filters are blocked.

If you hear abnormal gurgling, thumping or a shaking noise while your dishwasher is running, this is an indication that there is a blockage in your appliance. Equally, if you notice water collecting in the dishwasher tray after a wash cycle or slow drainage in your appliance, this is a sign that there may be a clog in your dishwasher's filters. The filter prevents foreign objects from recirculating onto plates and other crockery. If water is not draining from your dishwasher, there may be food or foreign objects blocking the drain filter.

To unblock your dishwasher's drain filters, you will need to following tools:

  1. Bucket
  2. Gloves
  3. Towels
  4. For serious clogs, professional tools, such as screwdrivers and drain snakes, may be needed. However, we do not recommend that you try to repair the appliance yourself. For additional support, please contact Beko's Customer Care at 0333 207 9710.

To unblock your dishwasher's drain filters, follow these simple instructions:

  1. Locate your dishwasher's drain filter. This is located at the bottom of your appliance, underneath the bottom basket.
  2. Run the filter under a tap to remove any food residue on and inside the filter.
  3. Install the metal/plastic filter.
  4. Place the course filter into the micro filter, making sure that it is properly enclosed. Turn the coarse filter clockwise until it clicks.
  5. Check the filter once per week.

How to unblock a dishwasher drain or hose?

If water will not drain from your Beko dishwasher, check the position of the drain hose connected to your appliance. It should be a minimum of 50cm and a maximum of 100cm above the floor to work correctly. For more information, please refer to your appliance manual. If you have misplaced yours, don't worry – you can download your appliance manual here.

When checking the drain hose, please follow the below instructions:

  1. Turn off the power supply to the dishwasher and unplug it.
  2. Carefully pull the dishwasher forward so you can access the drain hose.
  3. Ensure that the drain hose does not exceed the maximum length quoted in your instruction manual.
  4. Also, check that the drain hose has not been crushed, kinked or twisted or is blocked.
  5. If the drain hose seems fine, you will need to check the appliances filter or contact our customer service team
