How to correctly load detergent into your washing machine

How to correctly load detergent into your washing machine

Whether you’ve got a new washing machine or you’re changing your detergent type, knowing the best place to put your detergent can give you the best cleaning action and encourage the smooth running of your washing machine. But sometimes the drawers can be confusing.

Here’s a quick guide to correctly loading your Beko washing machine with detergent and softener:

Where to put detergent in a washing machine

Where you put your detergent will largely depend on the type of washing machine you have and the type of detergent you’re using. Unlike liquid and powder laundry detergents, liquid pod detergents will often go into the drum with your laundry. It is best to check with both your washing machine manual and the instructions on your laundry detergent to determine where to put it.

Putting your detergent in the right place is essential for the best cleaning action for your clothing.

What are the three compartments in a washing machine drawer

  1. For the best results, make sure you put the detergent and softener into the right sections of your detergent drawer.
  2. The powder detergent goes into the largest section of the drawer, usually on the left-hand side. If in any doubt, check your washing machine's manual.
  3. The liquid softener goes into the partially covered section of the drawer with the flower symbol. This is either in the centre or on the right-hand side of the drawer, depending on your model.
  4. The third section of the drawer is for pre-wash detergent, so you should add the relevant pre-wash detergent if you have selected the pre-wash function for your washing program.

Best tips for adding detergent to your washing machine

  1. Ensure you add the correct amount of detergent and softener into the drawer according to your load size. Check the guidance on the packaging of your detergent and softener and pay attention to the maximum level indicators in the detergent drawer sections. Less detergent may be required in soft water areas.
  2. Overfilling the drawer with detergent can lead to excessive foaming inside the washing machine, which can cause problems with both your washing machine and the laundry inside.
  3. Make sure you store your detergents and fabric softeners carefully and safely. If you wish to store your detergent in a container other than its original packaging, ensure the container is securely sealed, water-tight, and clearly labelled.
